Local Politicians Show Love for Canadian Film!

We're thrilled that so many of our local politicians --municipal, provincial and federal-- will represent at the 8th Annual Canada Film Days, May 1st - 8th at the Original Princess.

Starting May 1st, Kitchener Councillor Bil Ioannidis (@bilioannidis on Twitter) will be teaming up with old friend, David Miller, to introduce the 9:20pm screening of Bruce McDonald's THE HUSBAND. David Miller (@davidmillerA71), formerly of Kitchener, is the producer of THE HUSBAND & ALGONQUIN.

On May 2nd, MPP for K-W, Catherine Fife (@CFifeKW) will be on hand for opening remarks for the 7:00pm screening of the charming comedy set in Newfoundland, THE GRAND SEDUCTION. This film has been garnering lots of buzz ~ almost as much buzz as Catherine!

On May 3rd at 7:00, our Member of Parliament for Kitchener-Waterloo, Peter Braid (@peterbraid), will introduce ARCTIC DEFENDERS, the remarkable story of the creation of Nunavut. Also on hand for this screening, which is co-presented by CIGI, will be P. Whitney Lackenbauer, professor, researcher and crew member on the film!

Later on May 3rd at 9:00, Kitchener Councillor Dan Glenn Graham (@Dan_Ward10) will be in the house (the movie house!) for CAS & DYLAN, directed by Jason Priestley. A touching and funny road trip movie, it stars Richard Dreyfus and Tatiana Masley.

We're in for a treat May 4th, 7:00pm, when Mayor Brenda Halloran (@MayorBrenda) drops in to welcome Canadian film fans to BURT'S BUZZ. Fans of a certain brand of lip balm will like this one, too: it's all about the living icon behind Burt's Bees. He sold his stake in the company years ago and though he never benefited financially, he's been kept on as part of the brand. Pfenning's Organic co-presents and we hear they may have some truly organic lip balm for sale (not Burt's Bees!) at the screening.

Finally, on May 5th at 7:00pm, we're hosting a Tribute to Frederick Back / Fundraiser for 10,000 Trees. Waterloo Councillor Mark Whaley is very involved with 10,000 Trees, and they plan to have trees available for sale/adoption at this event. All proceeds from this family-friendly screening will go toward the purchase and planting of trees in our community.

We know our local politicians have very busy schedules serving us all in the community, so we'd like to send a big "THANK-YOU" to them for taking the time to help out with CANADA FILM DAYS, a Festival Celebrating Canadian Cinema!
