Ru (Hamilton)

Based on the Governor General Award-winning novel by Kim Thúy, Ru is the story of the arduous journey of a wealthy family fleeing from Vietnam, before landing in Quebec.

A wealthy refugee family leaves Vietnam and begins a new life in Montreal after a dangerous sea crossing. Shy Tinh must learn a new language and integrate into her new environment.

An adaptation of Kim Thúy's award-winning 2009 novel Ru, the film centres on the coming-of-age of Tinh (Chloé Djandji), a young girl from Vietnam who is adapting to Quebec culture and society after her family move to Granby as refugees from the Vietnam War.
